So I joined a gym.
It’s a nice gym. Most gyms I’ve been to are at least somewhat dirty. They smell. They’re full of muscley preening look at me type people.
This one is different. It’s clean. It smells, well, rather neutral actually. But the towels they provide smell awesome. The showers are the two-stage kind they have in spas that have the little changing room in front of the shower stall, and the showers have shampoo and conditioner and shower gel. The locker room has hair dryers and lotion and Q-Tips and mouthwash. I go at 5 and it isn’t totally crowded. I’ve been twice this week and haven’t waited for cardio equipment either time. The crowd is a mix of all ages, and everyone is just doing their own thing.
But the best part? The sauna. I love a sauna. And this one works and everything. (the saunas at my last two gyms were hit and miss).
It’s gym nirvana.
And yet I sat in my car texting and tweeting in the parking garage for close to 45 minutes, avoiding going in.
Here we go again.

A sauna? I want a gym with a sauna. Of course I don’t have a gym anymore – the outdoors is my gym now. But boy, would I love a sauna. And a steam room.
But you did go in eventually – that’s the important part. I’m right here, cheering you on. xo

I did go in. And I went in the next day and had my 1st assessment meeting. And I go back Monday for a fitness eval. So I’m getting there. And the sauna will be my reward.
i don’t do saunas. hell, i really don’t do gyms. which means i am insanely proud of you for going in, regardless of how long it took you to get outta your vehicle.

I so didn’t want to get out, but I finally did. I didn’t do a lot, but I’m getting back in the habit of going and that’s what matters.
I know this avoidance. I’ve been deciding all month to find a gym to join since the walking only treadmill I have at home gets used less often than I care for it to do. The motivation of paying for a gym and to go has also been an issue in the past, but I still tried to make a conscious effort to go at least 3 times a week.
For me, it’s a bigger issue that engulfs more things than just working out. But hoping to change the one working out part of this and hoping it will bleed over into changing the other parts of my things not getting done.

It’s been the same for me since my Dad died. I just don’t have the motivation to do a lot of things, but I’m trying to get back in the swing of things too.
I think if I could find a gym with a sauna I would go every single day. LOVE saunas.

It’s one of my favorite things. I love that this one isn’t co-ed like my last gym. That made me feel ewwwy.
I can relate. I can SO relate….and my gym has a sauna. And a pool. But I put one foot in front of the other and move my ass. I am happy you did too.
